Allergic reactions — Avoid the specific food, medicine, skin care products or cosmetics that you had a reaction to. Never take a medicine prescribed for someone else.
If you suspect that you are allergic to insect stings, talk to your doctor. You might see an allergist for testing and possible desensitization therapy. You also may need a bee-sting kit, which contains emergency medication to prevent potentially life-threatening reactions. Make sure you know where the kit is at home and consider getting an extra one if you participate often in an outdoor sport. Keep the second in your sports bag.
Treatment of the acute attack: 800 mg (620 mg base) followed in 6 to 8 hours by 400 mg (310 mg base), then 400 mg (310 mg base) once a day for 2 consecutive days; alternatively, a single dose of 800 mg (620 mg base) has also been effective
Dosage on the basis of body weight:
First dose: 10 mg base/kg (not to exceed 620 mg base)
Second dose: 5 mg base/kg (not to exceed 310 mg base) 6 hours after first dose
Third dose: 5 mg base/kg 18 hours after second dose
Fourth dose: 5 mg base/kg 24 hours after third dose
Each dose should be taken with a meal or a glass of milk.
Concomitant therapy with an 8-aminoquinoline drug is necessary for the radical cure of vivax and malariae malaria.
Because blood clots can be a life-threatening symptom of lupus, these drugs thin the blood to prevent it from clotting too easily. Anticoagulant medications include low-dose aspirin and prescription heparin (Calciparine®, Liquaemin®) and warfarin (Coumadin®). In particular, if you are being treated with warfarin, you must be monitored by your doctor to be sure your blood does not become too thin. Very recent research shows that people’s genetic makeup may influence how they respond to warfarin; specifically, that people with variations in two genes may need lower warfarin doses due to differences in how the body breaks down (metabolizes) warfarin and regulates the ability of warfarin to prevent blood from clotting.
